The Bridge Group seeks trustees

21/10/25

We are currently looking for trustees to support our work as the UK’s leading socio-economic inclusion research charity

Social mobility - a measurement of the strength of the link between a person’s childhood circumstances and their adult outcomes - has rightly become one of the most pressing policy matters of our time. The barriers faced by people from lower socio-economic backgrounds are higher in the UK than almost every other developed country and cause disadvantage for too many.

The Bridge Group’s mission is to change this. For over ten years, we’ve supported organisations of all kinds with independent expertise, research and practical know-how to enable them to make a real and lasting impact on socio-economic inclusion and social equality.

To help us move into the next ten years with energy, vision and purpose, we are seeking several new trustees with experience of organisational governance and a strong interest in our work.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking to balance the range of skills and experience on our Board, so would particularly welcome applications from individuals who have:

  • A background in, or excellent understanding of financial management

  • Experience of fundraising and philanthropic income generation

  • Good knowledge of the social sciences and/or a background in research or academia

  • Experience in tech, cyber security or AI

  • Personal experience of the barriers created by ‘social class’ and/or identify as from a lower socio-economic background.

How to apply

If you’re interested in applying, please read our full Trustee role description, and then complete our online application form. Applications from people who identify as being from a lower socio-economic background or historically under-represented group are particularly encouraged. We are also inclusive of people who are neurodivergent, have a health condition or a disability, and would be happy to make reasonable adjustments at both the interview stage (please specify in your application) and, should your application be successful, during board meetings.

We will be holding an information webinar on becoming a Bridge Group trustee at lunchtime on Monday, 03 November at midday. Please register your interest for this here (If you are unable to make this session but would still be interested in learning more about the Bridge Group before submitting your application, please e-mail applications@the-bridgegroup.co.uk). We may be able to hold a second evening webinar that week if there is interest, or, if not, answer any questions you might have directly.

The deadline for applications is 9 a.m. on Monday 17 November, with online interviews held in early December.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role, but travel expenses can be reimbursed where attending in-person meetings. The trustees meet a minimum of four times per year, with at least one of these meetings held in person in Central London.
